Melanie's social work career began in 2003 after she earned her MSW. For the first ten years, she worked in geriatrics with medically fragile and often terminally ill adults.
She first trained in EMDR in 2017, and it has been her primary clinical approach ever since.
Melanie prides herself on being approachable and inquisitive with anyone ready to begin a healing journey. She believes that developing and maintaining healthy routines allows us to relearn how to trust ourselves, and eventually, others and the world around us.
After the traumatic loss of her daughter, Sage, in 2020, Melanie embraced a powerful belief from her personal experience: that everyone inherently desires to heal in their own way, and that therapy is a process of discovering and utilizing the resources and paths needed for authentic healing.
Therefore, Melanie adapts her therapeutic approaches to best identify and actively engage her clients' strengths and resources.
In her free time, Melanie enjoys teaching English as a second language, reading, hiking, improving her Spanish, cooking Cuban food, and spending time with her son, Nigel, their dog, Spooky, and their cockatiel, Marcel.
Each therapist brings unique specializations and approaches to serve our diverse client needs.
